MOST FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT CARPET CLEANING:
1. How often should I have our carpets cleaned ? The EPA recommends carpet cleaning for areas with children and pets every 6 to 9 months. For commercial sites for the sake of employee and client health carpet should be cleaned at least once a year. Some health and grooming sites may need it more often depending on the amount of foot traffic they receive.
2. What cleaning process should I use ? Let's clarify terms: Extraction cleaning namely hot water extraction cleaning (a/k/a steam cleaning or HWE) systems use hot (up to 240 degrees) cleaning solutions sprayed (at pressures from 100-475psi) into the carpet fibers to loosen soil and contaminates which are immediately vacuumed out with spent cleaning solution. High temperatures and efficient vacuum systems insure quality cleaning and quick drying of carpet fibers. Under this heading are hot water extraction machines you can rent at your local hardware, drugstore or Home Depot. These typically have no heaters and the solution pressures are restricted to 40-60psi. You can do a very good job with the "rug doctor" or any other diy machine certified by the carpet and rug institute. For certified cleaning machines: http:\\www.carpet-rug.com . Take your time and follow instructions!
Dry cleaning systems vary : some are as simple as particles saturated with cleaners sprinkled on the carpet, brushed into the carpet fibers to attract soil before being vacuumed up(special equipment required). There are also alternate dry systems which spray cleaning solutions on the surface of the carpet and then using a machine with rotating cleaning cloths to remove the surface soil and solution (bonnet cleaning)
3. Will my carpets get dirty faster after cleaning ? If properly cleaned by a professional using quality chemicals and approved methods there is very little soil catching residue left behind. If you clean them yourself be sure to rinse the carpet after cleaning to remove any soapy residues.
4. What can I do to prolong the life of my carpets and keep it looking fresh and new ? The single most important measure you can take to prolong the life and appearance of your carpet is vacuuming. We HEPA vacuum carpets before we clean. If you have heavy traffic areas they should be vacuumed daily. This one action will give longer life to your carpets and rugs.
5. How long will it take for my carpet to dry ? It is not uncommon for 100% of your carpet to be dry by the time we leave your home or business . The powerful equipment we use and our foam extraction process insure quick drying times and maximum soil removal.
6. Do I need a fabric treatment after cleaning ? We at DURACLEAN MASTER CLEANERS use DuPont Teflon fabric protector. This fabric protector must wear off the carpet or fibers before the carpet begins to show wear. This protector allows for more soil removal during vacuuming as well as prolonging the life of the carpet. In the long run this can be a great money saver. We can apply this protector to new or just cleaned carpet. We can advise you on this at the time of our inspection and estimate. (Check out our Special money saver for new customers)
7. What is restoration cleaning ? When ordinary regular maintenance has not been performed, it is necessary to perform additional aggressive steps in cleaning to insure the best cleaning results possible. Visable soils and odors in your carpet are indicators of the need for this type of cleaning. RESTORATION CLEAN OR REPLACE ?
8. Why would someone clean new carpet (less than one year old) ? Manufacturing conditions for carpets are not the same as hospital conditions. Cleaning carpet within the 1st year after installation will show up any defects that the carpet may have from manufacture or improper installation.
